What is the "Elephant Day Care" program?

It is a specialized, hands-on educational experience focused on the daily healthcare routine of pregnant elephants and mothers with small babies.

Does this tour include elephant riding?

No. To protect the pregnant mothers and their young, the Elephant Day Care package has a strict no-riding policy.

What activities are included?

Guests take part in actual daily care routine tasks: Observing natural interactions among the elephant families. Conducting elephant health inspections. Feeding the elephants. Walking with them into the hills/valley for daily exercise. Leading them to the river/waterfall for drinking, bathing, and skin-care brushing.

Are the activities safe for children?

Yes, this program is highly recommended for friends, couples, and families with children. Children aged 1–4 years old can join free of charge.

The Patara Elephant Farm Half-Day Program (Elephant Day Care) is an immersive, hands-on conservation experience focused on elephant health, welfare, and natural behavior. Located in the lush foothills outside Chiang Mai, Patara operates on a philosophy of hands-on care without performance shows. Visitors take on the role of a caregiver, learning to inspect an elephant’s health, feed, bathe, and walk alongside them in their natural habitat.
